About IndabaX Sudan
IndabaX Sudan is a locally organized chapter of the Deep Learning Indaba movement, dedicated to celebrating and strengthening the Sudanese AI and machine learning community. As part of the wider IndabaX network across Africa, our goal is to spread knowledge, build capacity, and create welcoming spaces where students, researchers, engineers, and industry professionals can learn together and collaborate on impactful ideas. We believe that nurturing local talent and fostering connections across disciplines is key to ensuring Sudan is an active shaper of AI’s future on the continent.
Each year, IndabaX Sudan curates talks from regional and international experts, hands-on workshops, mentorship, and community showcases that spotlight Sudan-relevant applications, from healthcare and agriculture to fintech, education, and climate resilience. By aligning with the Deep Learning Indaba’s mission of strengthening African AI, we provide practical skills, research exposure, and networks that help attendees turn curiosity into capability and ideas into action, whether you’re just getting started or pushing the frontier of ML research.

A defining moment in my trajectory was when I attended the IndabaXSudan in 2019 which was my first exposure to ML, with sessions taught in my own Sudanese language. In 2022, I was selected with 350 Africans for a one week Deep Learning Indaba in Tunisia to move from as a national attendee to an international attendee. A session by Masakhane on NLP motivated my interest in ML Ressearch for my distteration two years later. After my return from Indaba, I was nomintaed by IndabaXSudan’s main organizer, Ahmed AlHassan, to be the Media Coordinator for that year’s Indaba. We amplified the voice of ML across Sudan to have 235 attendees with different expertise in the field. Having first discovered ML through Indaba, I feel responsible for passing the influence to others through our local language. This year, I'm leading the IndabaXSudan family, and despite what’s happening in Sudan, we decided to spread ML beyond borders for our Sudanese community despite the ongoing situation.

IndabaX Sudan was the spark that fueled my passion for Machine Learning. I was deeply inspired by IndabaX’s supportive community. Then what started as a curiosity turned into a lasting commitment to learning ML and giving back to this community, taking on various roles before eventually leading the event in 2025. Through the journey I saw how knowledge sharing through Indaba empowered us as Africans especially when I attended a faculty panel on DLI 2025 on how Africans can take ownership of solutions to their own challenges. The inspiration from both national and international speakers awakened my desire to deepen my understanding of the field. It ultimately motivated me to pursue research on the evaluation of Large Language Models (LLMs).

I heard about IndabaX first time in 2019 , to be honest I didn't dig deeper to know the community or attend the session but this all changed when I saw that in this circumstances the inspirational event will get back on track. Feeling proud to be part of bringing IndabaX again , stronger than ever and I hope this year we will make the name of Sudan rise in the community of AI and machine learning around the globe . We're just in the beginning but the experience of organizing the event gave me such a valuable lessons and I did get to know incredible people and learn from them in the most professional way . They open up my eyes on how we are capable, talented and had skills that we can use to lift up our country.
